Our History

Clever Yoga was founded in Tampa, Florida in 2014 by passionate yogi Ellie Teng. Ellie discovered yoga and all its profound benefits for the mind and body after training as a marathon runner began to take its toll on her joints. She instantly fell in love, and yoga has become her passion in life and has healed her body. She founded Clever Yoga around the principles of loving kindness, supreme customer care, and her strong belief in the vast benefits of yoga.

Meet The Clever Yoga Team


Ellie Teng

I started practicing yoga after seeing a flyer in a monthly community magazine about a new studio opening – Studio 108.  I had been a marathon runner for over 10 years with knee and ankle issues. Reading about the benefits yoga brings to the body and mind, I decided to give it a try.  I went to their Signature Funky Flow class with Missy White and fell in love with it.  I loved the challenge, the energy and the friendliness of all of the people involved.  From that class on, I have been practicing daily and enjoy every minute of the practice.

My favorite yoga pose is tripod headstand pose because it works on your shoulder strength, your core muscles, and your balance while you can view the world upside down.  It took me 6 months to lift myself up. 

For fun, I love to practice yoga with friends in the studios, do outdoor activities with natural beauty, especially swimming in the ocean, snorkeling, skydiving, and biking.  I also enjoy listening to music, books and experimenting with a new healthy recipe. I don’t really have one favorite vacation spot, I just love traveling to see nature, beauty and different culture and sceneries. I really love warm tropical weather.

Favorite food? Sushi, salad, and fruits.

What makes you happy? When I bring happiness to the others. I worked as a college teacher, database administrator, and real estate investor.  

Now I work with a group of passionate yogis to provide great quality products and educational services to the community, all of whom want to be healthy, fit and calm.




I started practicing yoga after reading how therapeutic yoga was for massage therapists.  After taking one hot yoga class, I fell in love and have been hooked ever since!   I credit yoga for helping me stay strong as a full-time massage therapist since 1992!

My favorite yoga poses are pigeon for the hip focus and balancing half-moon because I love being upside down and feeling a sense of spaciousness in my body at the same time.

For fun, I love hanging out with friends who make me laugh and going to yoga class.

My favorite vacation spot is Hawaii. I moved to Florida in 2013 and I feel like I live in a vacation spot.  The hotter and sunnier, the more I feel like I’m on vacation.

Favorite Food? Mangos!!

What makes you happy? Cuddling/playing with animals and laughing every single day!

Suzanne is also a licensed massage therapist and registered yoga instructor, RYT 200.



I started practicing yoga after hearing about a couple of studios opening in my area when I was in High School. I was interested in trying something new,  instead of the same old gym routines. My first class was a hot flow and I’ve been in love ever since!

My favorite yoga pose is anything working with hips and backbends! Any variations in Hanumanasana, Urdhva Dhanurasana or Eka Pada Rajakapotasana.

For fun, I like to spend time relaxing at the beach, taking yoga classes, and swimmng---anything that includes time on, or near, the water!

I love to travel, either a tropical oasis or a European destination.

Favorite food? My favorite foods are mangos and pineapples---sweet and juicy fruits!

What makes you happy?  Surrounding myself with my pets (any animals really), and people who like to have a good time and enjoy each and every moment!

I am a college graduate with a bachelor's in Sustainability Management. Currently, I am a full-time instructor with 200 RYT.  I am living life by taking it day by day, waiting to see what the future has in store for me next.



I started practicing yoga because I was sick. I started working with healing and yoga.

My favorite yoga pose is tripod headstand.

For fun, I love skydiving, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

My favorite vacation spot is Costa Rica.

Favorite food? Mediterranean

What makes you happy? I just am happy!

I am a professional photographer as well as a yoga instructor. 



I started practicing yoga after feeling physical pain from my profession. Working as a graphic designer means sitting a lot in one position, often more than 12 hours a day. The unfortunate result is back, shoulder and hand joints pain. I was as amateur volleyball player but that was not enough. I needed to stretch my muscles and an exercise at home. Yoga was perfect for this. I’ve learned basic poses from video tutorials.  After three to four days I felt the first benefits of yoga. My neck, shoulder, hands, and back were more relaxed and working in one position for many hours became a little easier.

My favorite yoga poses are bow pose and revolved side angle pose. Both really stretch me nicely!

For fun, I love spending time with great friends! For weekends,  we love to climb mountains and always search for different places, without GPS, maps,  only great spirit, water, and food. Real fun adventure!

One of my favorite vacation spots was Thasos Island in Greece. It was a great place!  I love a lot of different beaches, crystal clear water, great seafood!

Favorite food? My favorite food is one meal that is prepared with boiled broccoli and cauliflower, later backed with scrambled eggs without any oils, just little salt. Delicious!

What makes you happy? Positive people make me happy, my family makes me happy and my friends that I know from being 4 years old makes me happy! Sun in the morning makes me happy!
