The Power of Optimism

"I've never seen a problem that optimism couldn't fix." - unknown
How do you feel about your life? Are you optimistic about your future?
Did you know that your mindset is the reason you are where you are and what you have become?
Everything you are right now or will be in the future….is all up to you. Your entire life is a result of your outlook on life and the decisions and actions you’ve made up until now based on that mindset.
You can create whatever future you want for yourself by changing your mindset and your behaviors. You can change your life by becoming optimistic.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Your mindset determines how successful you are in all aspects of your life.
The Difference Between Optimistic and Pessimistic People
Optimistic people are typically the happiest people. They are also the healthiest and most successful people. Think about the most influential person you’ve ever met. Were they optimistic about the world?
The reason why is simple and makes sense on the most basic level.
The reason is this : you become what you think most about.
Optimistic people think about what they want and how to get it. They think about where they want to be and how they should get there. Because optimistic people think about what they want, they create positivity. They have higher energy, and they perform at higher levels.
Pessimistic people are quite the opposite. They tend to think about what they do not want. They think about their problems. They think about who to blame for a situation. Because pessimistic people think negatively, they become negative.
Optimistic People are Goal-Oriented
Having goals is one of the best ways to be productive and successful in life.
Optimistic people have a natural tendency to be goal oriented. They are future oriented. When you look towards the future instead of the past, you develop your ideal image of what you want to accomplish in your life.
Because optimistic people want to move forward towards what they want, they are strategic planners. They make plans on how to get there.
Don’t worry. You have control over your mindset. You can become an optimistic person.
You can set your goals and crush them!
So now we know that we need to be optimistic in order to succeed, but how do we change the way we think?
How to Bring Optimism into Your Life
Optimism = Confidence = Success
It really is that simple.
But how does one become optimistic? Don’t worry – it was a pessimist who coined the phrase “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
Here are a few ways you can cultivate optimism in your life.
Focus on Solutions instead of Problems
Are you obsessing about a problem? Do you worry incessantly? If you find yourself feeling negative or doubting yourself, change your focus.
Ask yourself this one simple question:
What is one thing I can do differently that might improve this situation?
You have now replaced your problem focused mind with a solution focused mind. This mindset will immediately give you a sense of moving forward. By focusing on a solution, you will feel hope and possibility (all foundations of optimism).
Find the Small Wins
A great way to start the transformation to optimism is to find the small wins in your life. Get yourself into the habit of looking for any improvement in your current situation (no matter how small).
For example, losing a pound may seem small if your goal is to lose 100 pounds, but it is forward movement towards your goal. You are one pound less than you were before.
Create your Positive Mental Image
What you see is what you will be.
The most powerful affirmation you can send your sub-conscious mind is a mental image. Create a mental image of you succeeding at what you want most out of life (as if your life goal was already achieved). What would you look like? What would you feel like? What would you be doing? Create an image.
Positive people visualize the outcome that they desire. They program their sub-conscious mind. They shape their self-image and confidence based on this image…and their performance reflects it.
Only Be Around the Right People
Zig Ziglar has a saying that goes “You can’t fly with the eagles if you continue to scratch with the turkeys.”
He is right. Birds of a feather in fact do flock together.
Research has shown over and over that your mindset depends on the people you associate with.
Think about it. If you hang around negative people, what do you think is going to happen to you?
Attitude is contagious.
Do not socialize with just anyone. Be very picky and clear about the kind of people who you are going to allow to influence your thinking and feeling.
There is Only One You
There is only one you. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done. All that matters is where you want to go and who you want to be.
So….what will it be?
